Parity

Referring to the condition of being equal. It is used in finance referring to salaries and costs, and in mathematics and physics to refer to the state of numbers being even or at the same level. The word parity is also used to refer to the same status of character. In medicine, the word parity is used to reference bearing children or the number of children previously born.

Etymology

The word parity borrows from the 16th-century Latin word paritus, which means equal.
