Definition: To yearn is to have a strong feeling of longing for something. It can be used to describe a feeling of tenderness, attraction or emotional tugging. 

Etymology: The Old English root of the word yearn is georn, which means eager. The first known use of the word yearn was before the 12th century. In the Latin language, the word yearn is spelled anhelare.
