Definiton: The term zenith refers to the highest point, way, or level reached by a celestial body as it moves around a given point of observation.
The highest degree that is attainable; a stage in development that is the most successful.
Etymology: Arabic, Spanish, and French. The word Zenith developed from a misinterpretation of a Middle Ages (14th century) Arabic expression meaning “direction or path of the head” by Medieval Latin scribes, possibly through the Spanish language.
There was a mistake in the spelling. The “m” was misread as “ni,” and it was reduced to “samt” (“direction”). The Old French “cenith” and the New English “zenith” were first used in the 17th century.
